Posterizing the Movie Industry

A Fantastic Array of Movie Posters

Humans have three-thousand thoughts a day, and today, all I can think of is damn....there are some cool ass movie posters circulating the web, concentrating mainly around some of the most anticipated upcoming releases: Tree of Life, Cowboys & Aliens, Captain America, X-Men: First Class, Thor, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Super 8, Hangover 2, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
In lieu of the fantastic visual bombardment of Sucker Punch (Zack Snyder's visual imagination cannot be overstated), I decided to assemble a catalogue of some of my favorite Movie Posters for upcoming 2011 releases. Also, in a deliberate attempt to appeal to your keen visual tastes, I have also included a bundle of BONUS images (at the bottom). Actually, I am purposely elevating your suspense in a blatant effort to ensure that you all scan through to the bottom.
What is your favorite poster? Feel free to leave your impressions. Personally, I love the poster for Tree of Life, which is a movie I absolutely cannot wait to see. Without further ado, enjoy the sensory overload!

  1. I'm one of the few people who don't really find THE TREE OF LIFE poster lovely, it's overly confusing and it doesn't do anything for me.
But I do love the special touch in CAPTAIN AMERICA and X-MEN posters. THOR has some really cheap posters, which surprised me. PIRATES always have nice ones, and you just had a new one with mermaids released yesterday, Matty :)
GREEN LANTERN also had some nice banners and posters this year.

PS, Matty lose the word verification box :) all the bloggers hate it ;) and there's a mutual agreement around the blogosphere not to use it unless you have thousands of spam attacks which no one has :)

  2. This is gorgeous artwork. Some of my fave movie posters include the LOTR trilogy, Gladiator, Young Frankenstein, Frankenstein from 1931 and The Wolfman 2010.

  3. In the official posters, I noticed lots of oranges and blues. Coincidence? I think not.

  4. @ Dezmond

It is a bit excessive, but I'm actually fine with that. The images flow and seem very organic. Plus, Terence Malici is primarily a visual auteur, so I absolutely am ecstatic for his return to film. As we know, he likes to take lonnnnnggg breaks between films.

Thanks for the tip, Dezz. It's done!

    @ Melissa

Indeed, esp. the Tarantino prints, which are excellent.

Great picks. Perhaps, one day I shall devote a post to my favorite Movie Posters of All-Time!

    Aha. Good observation!

Actually the proliferation of orange/blue hues is not deliberate on my part. Apparently, Hollywood loves churning out posters that mainly feature the orange/blue mixture. So, it is a coincidence on my part, but in terms of Hollywood's doings, it is completely purposeful. http://imprint.printmag.com/color/the-orange-and-the-blues/—This article is quite telling!

  6. Okay so I really can't pick a favorite they're all so bad ass. I mean first off Tarantino!!!! You have no idea how in love I am with that man so I am beyond excited to see him represented so much. I adore the Death Proof one and the Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. The Tree of Life is amazing, no doubt about that. I can't wait for its release either! Great post, very entertaining!

  7. Posters for movies are getting more interesting than the movies themselves.

  10. Haha I feel your optimism. A Justice League movie must happen!

And yes, posters are fantastic and creative ways to draw me into a film before I have any conception of what it's about. You can tell they spend an enormous of time perfecting them.
