Unchained and Biblical       Batting leadoff today is a story, from Wednesday, that portends a very compelling possibility; imagine Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. If the story unfolds as expected, we won't have to imagine it. 

Quiz Show        It's too bad that The African Queen isn't just called Queen because Humphrey Bogart gives one of his best performances alongside Katharine Hepburn in John Huston's beautiful film....but alas, let's move on to a good film that is a "Q" qualifier, and with reason. Since I was a little harsh to The Sundance Kid with my "O" post, I decided to make amends by selecting Robert Redford's historical drama, Quiz Show. "Q" is like the red-headed stepchild of film letters, but Redford's film is no walkover. I'll keep this review fairly short, not out of deference to Redford, who'd probably not want to read a long review. Instead, we all know "Q's" are only good when they're preceded by Susie. And, unless your playing "Words With Friends," who has any real use for "Q?" I don't know one person that has an affinity for Q-tips, and the rapper Q-Tip kind of faded into celebrity-ob...

 A King On The Most Important Day         This post may be a tad belated, but I consider its contents to be critic -ally important; sort of a referendum against the mass of online film critics. A lthough, you can include me in the increasingly animus ranks of filmgoers who reacted in objective dismay at the coronation of The King's Speech during the Academy Awards, I still cannot discount it's resounding triumph of the four major categories—a film viewed by many as "Oscar Bait" proved to be Oscar Great, winning Best Picture, Actor, Original Screenplay, and in terms of this post, Director. Despite my preference for Fincher or Aronofsky for Best Director, Tom Hooper took home the coveted award...and much less importantly, my infinitely inconsequential, "Person of the Week" title.

FilmMattic @ Work           The crown jewel of the film world, the Oscars will begin in a matter of moments. This Award's show carries an infectious luster. In keeping with this spirit, I have decided to live-blog the event—my first ever foray into the live-blogging realm.        Without further ado, ready yourself for a continuous onslaught of everything Oscar, and jump right into my live-blogging of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.

      And The Oscar Goes To                 Charlie Sheen. Before any readers permanently abandon my blog or boundlessly cut short any further reading, do realize that I am wholeheartedly kidding. On the contrary, the bulk of my post will breakdown the Big 4 Oscar categories—"And The Oscar Goes To" are five words that will never precede the announcement of Sheen's name. Rather, he's more likely to hear these five words: "You have been sentenced to." Nonetheless, I do want to provide a quick commentary on Mean Sheen's latest controversy. 

      Just so you can more intricately understand my film sensibilities, I am formulating a uniquely personalized list. It will afford you a glimpse into my favorites across the vast universe of film. Please do not confuse this with any best of list, as these selections are born from personal and purely subjective impressions. If I were to construct a list of the best films/categories, it would significantly differ from this list. Such an undertaking would require much more reasoned and sophisticated thought. I will reserve that list for a time, far far away.        These categories are mostly generic, but I will elucidate on some of my choices. I do not want this to be a bland listing. Without further ado, let's jump right into it! (This list is subject to periodic updates as I add new categories).

     Natalie Portman's Identifiable Prowess           The beginning of a new year is always marked by two certainties.  These certainties are married together by the pretensions of a congratulatory send off of the past years memorable events and an enthusiastic expectancy for the new year's future endeavors.  In lieu of this congratulatory send off, I will announce as my first "Person of the Week" for 2011, the beautiful and precociously talented Natalie Portman.       The star of Darren Aronofsky's latest critical feature, Black Swan, Natalie Portman is cementing her place in Hollywood as a bona fide A-lister, deserving of weighty, significant acting roles.  Her portrayal as the compellingly multi-faceted, provocative ballerina, Nina Sayers, is fittingly representative of her vast acting talents.  Oscar buzz has reached a fever pitch surrounding her performance and a nomination for Bes...

Review: Black Swan       Nina Sayers farewell remark to The Gentleman sums up Black Swan as beautifully as the artistry of the ballerina dancers ... "I was perfect."  Indeed, Darren Aronofsky, you were perfect.
